August 3-6 and August 11-13, 2017

“SOUTH SIDE STORIES” is the theme for the company’s tenth festival of new works. Eight area playwrights were commissioned to write ten minute plays exploring the South Dallas community’s history, myths, folk heroes, and present day happenings. The festival will feature 10 plays exploring a myriad of compelling stories such as Father J. Von Brown, the eccentric preacher and activist from the 1950’s, to Wah Wah Chinese, the celebrated “hole in the wall” Chinese restaurant that’s operated for decades in the heart of the ‘hood.  The festival is funded in part by a generous grant from the City of Dallas Office of Cultural Affairs. These pieces will be presented in the style of “the theater of the oppressed” and will preview in non-traditional spaces throughout South Dallas and then run for two weeks at the South Dallas Cultural Center.
