Over the course of 27 years - 17 of which Soul Rep was actively producing (a ten-year hiatus taken from 2003 – 2013) - the company accomplished the following through its productions and arts education programs:

Our Artistic Impact

Produced 12 New Play Festivals that PREMIERED 78 short or one act plays by 62 PLAYWRIGHTS to Dallas audiences.

Produced 65 plays, of which:

  • 32% were new works

  • 40% were regional premieres

  • 20% were family friendly children’s plays

  • 15% were co-productions

  • 20% were world premieres

  • 75% of the plays produced were written by women

  • 70% of the plays produced were written by playwrights of color

  • 91% of the talent hired (actors, directors, designers, and stage managers) were locally based 

Our Educational Impact

  • Provided 8 summer theater camps that served approximately 350 children

  • Collaborated with 3 area school districts in providing arts education services

  • Provided over 50 theater workshops or master classes to children, youth, and adults

  • Launched an innovative and impactful youth arts education program - LIBERATION LABORATORY - with a focus on social justice and inspired by the theater of the oppressed and Boal techniques

  • 88% of children and youth served were African-American

  • 75% of arts education programs served South Dallas or the southern sector

  • 50% of arts education programs were FREE

  • Serve between 1,100 – 1,500 patrons each season 

  • 28% of Soul Rep’s patrons are first-time theater goers
