NGOZI ANYANWU is a playwright, storyteller, and most recently a 2020 Steinberg Playwright Award winner whose productions include Good Grief (Vineyard Theatre in NYC / Center Theatre Group in LA) and The Homecoming Queen (sold-out world premiere run at Atlantic Theater Company). Good Grief was on the Kilroys List 2016 and a semifinalist for the Princess Grace Award, and won the Humanitas Award.


CAST

Tiana Shuntaé Alexander (Nkechi) is a Dallas native, graduate of Booker T Washington HSPVA and Alumna of Grambling State with a BA in Theatre. Known throughout the Dallas metroplex for being a teaching artist/performer. She has been on many stages from Jubilee Theatre, Bishop Arts and The Pocket Sandwich Theatre. She has also worked with Soul Rep Theatre company performing in their Black Men Illuminated play Festival and as Fiona in the regional premiere of “Amazing Grace.” She was most recently seen in ELF the musical portraying the store manager at Firehouse theatre. She has also performed in “BlackGIRL” ( a one woman show) written by her and directed by Curtis King at the Black Academy of Arts and Letters. Tiana is an Irma P Hall awards winner for Best supporting actress in a musical for her performance in “Gospel Hallelujah” at Jubilee Theatre. She is also an Urban Arts Acting Company member. She has been in numerous productions: Prelude to a kiss (Taylor), Twelfth Night ( Dame Toby Belch) Legally Blonde (former Laker Girl/Judge), Hair(Ronny), The Wiz ( Evilene), Medea(Medea), White Christmas (Martha) and many more. Tiana believes that with God all things are possible and hopes to be a positive light to whomever she encounters.


Karras Ian Thomas (JD) was born October 26, 1987 in Dallas, Tx. He is a formally trained actor and singer with a passion to uplift and inspire his generation. In his early ages, he expressed himself through music having been taught piano by his grandmother and became fascinated with the art of storytelling after having seen Whoopi Goldberg and Lauryn Hill in Sister Act 2. In 2017, Karras decided to connect with his childhood dreams with a firm belief it’s not where you start, but where you finish. His latest accomplishments include landing an agent to further promote his exposure in the entertainment business and acting beside Tony Romo in a commercial. In his past time, he enjoys spending time with friends and family, boxing, biking on the Katy Trail, and fitness.


Angelo Reid (Papa), a Soul Rep company member, is a Charleston, South Carolina, native. His Soul Reps acting credits include BOURBON AT THE BORDER (Charlie Thompson) and YELLOWMAN (Eugene Gaines). Other favorite acting credits include A SOLDIER’S PLAY (Captain Richard Davenport), MISS EVERS BOYS (Dr. Eugene Brodus), SHOUTING DOWN A QUIET LIFE (Emmett Fludd), THE ODD COUPLE (Roy), and BIG RIVER (Jim).


Judah Agbonkhina (Bro) is an Activist, Actor and Film Maker out of the Dallas TX area. He has trained extensively in the arts since Elementary school attending Several arts schools throughout his education including, W.E. Greiner for the Performing and Visual Arts and Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. Judah began his activism when he joined the United States Army in 2008. After serving for 4 years, he left the military and decided to continue serving his community eventually creating Suits For Judah. Suits For Judah is a 501(C)(3) Nonprofit Charity Organization dedicated to changing the mindsets and lives of young urban Americans through Mentorship, Exposure, Entrepreneurship and Empowerment. For his work in the community, Judah was awarded the Not My Son "Community Humanitarian Award 2021". In 2021 Suits For Judah helped create and release a documentary called 'Sandbranch: The Texas Town With No Running Water' on Sandbranch TX, A Texas "Freedmans" Town 15 minutes outside of Dallas that has no running water. Judah has several acting credits with various entities including Soul Rep Theatre Company and Maverick Entertainment. Jasmine Shanise (MJ’s Mom/Neighbor’s Mom) is delighted to grace the Soul Rep stage once again! She most recently performed in “Shakin’ The Mess Outta Misery.” Her recent credits include 'ImPossible' feature film, 'Berta Berta' with Jubilee Theatre and 'Eye For An i' a short film with USC's MFA Film program. She was recently awarded "Best Actress" by the San Antonio Black International Film Festival for her depiction of 'Amy Hanter' in the award winning short, 'Check Out Time'! Anyika McMillan-Herod (NeNe) is Co-founder and Executive Director of Soul Rep Theatre Company. She is also a playwright, author, director, actor, and development professional. Herod, a Dallas native and alum of Booker T. Washington High School, holds a BFA in Theater from Prairie View A&M University and studied acting in California Institute of the Arts’ MFA program. She most recently portrayed Zora Neal Hurston in Soul Rep’s celebrated SOULO-O SHORT SERIES last spring. As a playwright, Herod’s commissioned play, DO NO HARM, recently made its world stage debut at the Wyly Theater as part of the 2021-2022 Elevator Project Series for ATTPAC.


Tony Williams (MJ) is a native of Thomasville, Ga. He joined the US Navy after high school and worked as an aircraft electrician. With a love for film, Williams began working on his craft and in 2013, landed his first national commercial. Williams relocated to Dallas to further his new-found career as an actor. He has been working steadily in the industry as an up and coming must-see actor. He made his debut with Soul Rep earlier this year in the company’s latest original short film, FLESH AND BONE that premiered at The Texas Theater.

Dee Hunter-Smith (Director) is a member of Soul Rep and serves as Associate Artistic Director of Theater. She has worked on and off the stage for over 25 years. Dee holds a Bachelor of Arts from Prairie View A&M University and a Master of Fine Arts from The California Institute of the Arts, in Theater Management. She directed Soul Rep’s critically acclaimed productions of STEAL AWAY, THE COLORED MUSEUM, FOR COLORED GIRLS…, and Stud Terkel’s RACE. She’s worked with many other theater companies such as Jubilee Theater and African American Repertory Theater.


Malaisian Ann Parker (Stage Manager) is a native of Morgan City, Louisiana. She received her Associate of Applied Arts Degree from KD conservatory College of Film and the Dramatic Arts in Dallas. She is very excited to be continuing her professional development with Soul Rep once again. She has worked on projects in the DFW area making her mark as a stage manager, assistant stage manager, backstage crew, director's assistant, and actor. Favorite pieces she has been in include: Almost Blue; Lizz, The Talented Tenth; Pam, False Hopes; Claudia, Macbeth; First Witch, Good Kids; Deirdre, and Baby with the Bathwater; Miss Pringle. She also has a background in dance and singing. She is so grateful to Soul Rep and the ladies of Shakin' The Mess Outta Misery for always making her feel like family. She believes that her passion will always lead her to purpose and that's why the arts will always be her first true love! La-Hunter Smith (Choreographer/Intimacy Coach) is a native of Washington D.C. She was a lead soloist with the Dallas Black Dance Theater, working with master choreographers like Alonzo King, Blondell Cummings, Talley Beatty, and Katherine Dunham. Ms. Hunter was a member of the Bruce Woods Dance Co. and performed as a guest artist with the Lula Washington Dance Co. of Los Angeles. La ‘Hunter, has a Bachelor’s of Arts in Dance, with studies in Psychology and has taught the Lester Horton technique, Jazz, and Contemporary for over 20 years in educational and professional settings such as teaching Master Classes at Texas Christian University, Texas Woman’s University, and was a former Faculty Member teaching the professional division and Advance levels at Texas Ballet Theater. Ms. Hunter has formed her own Contemporary Modern Dance Company, “La ‘Hunter In Flight Dance Theatre”, that has performed in the DFW and Houston areas. As a choreographer Ms. La ‘Hunter has choreographed, co-directed, and directed several Theatrical plays and Musicals such as Ntozake Shange’s, “For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf”, Toni Morrison ‘s, “The Bluest Eye”, “Dreamgirls”, etc. She was nominated for several Irma P Hall Black Theater Arts Awards for choreography, direction, and scenic design of Soul Rep’s “Naughty But Nice” and Bishop Art’s version of “Black Nativity.”


RaChelle D. Conley-Lister (Lighting Designer) is a native to Dallas, TX, and an alumnus of Texas Women’s University with a bachelor's in dance has worked many productions in the DFW metroplex. A current employee of AT&T Performing Arts Center as the Lighting Assistant, RaChelle has done many seasons with companies such as Dallas Black Dance Theatre, Headliners, Loris Beckles Dance Company just to name a few. RaChelle has worked as a stage manager, light designer, assistant master electrician, and many more. This is RaChelle’s first season with Soul Rep.
